Today, a photovoltaic system costs about 20% more than it could cost as a result of taxes – federal, state and local. In addition, some states (learn which ones here) still improperly charge people who are already generating their own energy – this tax is called Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS, in Portuguese) on electricity. According to company data from the Energy Research Company (EPE – Empresa de Pesquisa Energética), if the ICMS over electricity was knocked down in all states, Brazil would have 55% more systems installed by 2023.
