If all the theoretical potential for electricity generation in Brazilian homes were made available with photovoltaic systems, Brazil would produce enough energy to supply more than twice the current residential consumption in the country. Besides the economic benefits to the people’s pocket, there are also social benefits, as this use could also create some six million new direct and indirect jobs and generate savings of about R$ 95 billion a year for the population. One of the barriers for the popularization of solar energy is the lack of subsidized credit lines that make photovoltaic systems financially more affordable. Though some credit lines are already available, they all offer very high interest rates, which ends up making them unfeasible in the current scenario.
